Eosinophils are the third variety of granulocyte, with a bilobed nucleus and abundant, large eosinophilic, cytoplasmic granules. These are rare in normal blood (1% or less), and the preparation shown here has been highly enriched for research purposes.
Eosinophils participate in protective reactions to certain parasites.
