Normal and T-Depleted Human Lymph Node
![]() |
Normal node at the left shows multiple secondary follicles (SF) (primary follicles are rare in normal humans), and abundant cellularity of the parafollicular cortex (PfC) (T-cell areas equivalent to the diffuse cortex of mouse). The medulla (Med) is interdigitated throughout the node (unlike mouse). The node at the right, from the same patient following depletion of his circulating T-cells, shows normal secondary follicles and medulla, but the cellularity of the parafollicular cortex is greatly depleted. (The germinal centers were pre-existing, and therefore were not affected by this acute T-depletion.) |
