Multivalent Antigen
![]() |
Here is the antigen to which our antibody will bind. For this particular antigen, each molecule has four identical "epitopes" (its four corners) which can be specifically recognized by the antibodies' binding sites. Not all antigens are multivalent, as are the ones in this illustration. However, many naturally occurring antigens do display multiple, identical epitopes (microbial carbohydrates, for example). |
