If antigen and antibody are combined under conditions of antigen excess, most antibodies will have two bound antigens, and most antigen molecules will be completely free. The largest complexes which will form are a single antibody with two antigens; such a complex will normally be sufficiently small to remain in solution (i.e. there will be no precipitation).
